higher editing resolution than frames?? please help.
by Josh Batty on Jul 6, 2008 at 6:44:44 am

Hey guys, im really desperate here. Im editing a music recital with 2 different camera angles. One is a still shot that goes for the entirety of the show which is fine, but the other is from a handy cam that ive got lots of different shots with.

my question is, im trying to line the handycam shots up perfectly in sync with the audio ive got from the desk. I've got audio from the handycam as a reference so when i zoom in on the timeline i can see where the peaks are to line them up perfectly so its in sync, only problem is that final cut will only let me move my clips to the nearest frame in the timeline.

what i need to be able to do is move one of my clips to match up that lies halfway between frames. Is it possible to freely line up and place clips in the timeline to overcome this. Surely there must be a way.

In conclusion, i basically want to be able to work in Milliseconds not frames in the timeline.

please help as im tearing my hair out here.

Thanks, Josh

Are you mixing the audio sources? I ask because that is what that tutorial is showing you how to do. You cannot movie to video from source B a 1/2 Frame in relationship to Audio/Video A.

The other thing is if the handy cam is walking around from front of stage to back of house the audio is not in sync with the video to begin with, the more distance you move the more it is out of sync. And frankly I think you are adding a lot of effort for nothing. Most people don't notice sync problems for a couple of frames but most professional spot it in a frame and I'm sure there are those that can spot it is a 1/3 of a frame. Just my opinion, get it close and then slip the video to where it looks/sounds right.
