How to export 1920*1080 mov files?
by Newton Niu on Jul 6, 2008 at 6:26:46 am

Hi, everyone. My original resources are shot by Panasonic Dvcpro HD with the format 1080i50; 1920*1080; now i log and transfer in Final cut pro, with easy setting as Dvcpro HD 1080i50. It seems everythhing is correct, but the mov files that i get are 1440*1080, instead of 1920*1080. What's the problem? Are there any other settings that i do wrong?

Your file sizes are correct for DVCPro HD. This is an anamorphic format, just like HDV.

1080i/50 is 1440x1080

1080i/60 is 1280x1080

720 is 960x720

Final Cut Pro automatically stretches the files back out to full raster during playback.

Thank you for your answer, Walter. But still i have some questions. If this is an anamorphic format, then is there a way that i get a normal format? Since when I shot, I shot 16:9 videos and I don't want to get some 4:3 video files as my result.

They're not 4:3, they're still 16:9.

Thanks for the quick reply, but sorry to bother you again. How come a 1440*1080 video is still 16:9? And 1440:1080=4:3=1.33? I am a little confused.

Anamorphic video takes a 16x9 image, squeezes it into and 4x3 frame when recorded, then unsqueezes the image back to 16x9 on the fly for display. It's just another way of compressing and uncompressing information to save space.

[walter biscardi] "1080i/60 is 1280x1080"

Walter,

Didn't you mean 1920 x 1080?

Have a wonderful day.

Not in DVCPro HD. 1080i/60 is 1280x1080 then stretched back out to 1920 x 1080 by FCP.

1080i/50 is 1440 x 1080 then stretched back out to 1920 x 1080 by FCP.

HDV is 1440 x 1080 in both formats.
