HDV footage with audio out of sync - 10 hours captured incorrectly!?
by lisa rolley on Jul 5, 2008 at 10:50:08 pm

Hey friends happy 4th,

I just imported all of this HDV 1080i 50 PAL footage - i did it from the camera we shot with (Sony HVR Z1‏) The entire footage 10 tapes is out of sync by about 3 or 4 frames. I am wondering if there is anything in the FCP playback settings, or anything whatsoever w/in FCP that could explain this.

My fear is that it's bc I didn't use a deck and the camera was somehow worn out or whatever - but then it's still weird that ALL 10 tapes come in out of sync. I've had it happen that a couple come in wrong but not all, and not all by the same amount - that's why I'm hoping it's something in the computer that's fixable.

any thoughts, clues, ideas?

I plugged the camera into a tv and checked the sync there and it's not out of sync there. I asked a friend and he said that sometimes depending on your playback settings, you could have it on a different frame rate than what you brought in and that will play it out of sync. I also tried making a 10 second quicktime of the footage from the timeline that looks out of sync and the quicktime is also out of sync.

I need some serious help here - do we need to rent a deck and reimport or is it a FCP setting i have wrong??

please someone help!

Lisa

Lisa,

Open File -- System Settings -- Playback Control and change the frame offset from 4 to 0. That should fix your problem. Apple for some reason has that setting defaulted to 4 when it should be zero. Who knows why???
