Hiya,
I'm trying to import HD footage into FCP 5.1.4 from P2 cards. Some come in fine, but others won't show up. They work fine on my friend's computer but i can't see to get it to work on mine consistently. Any suggestions? I'm running FCP 5.1.4, quicktime 7.5 (7.3 didn't work either) and Intel Mac 2 x 2.66 Dual-Core, 4 gigs of ram, and OSX 10.4.11.
Any help would be great, i'm scratching my head on this one.
thanks in advance!
Colin

#36 - One or More P2 files failed to import.
Shane's Stock Answer #36 - "One or more clips failed to import..."
Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don't like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)...the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window...is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.
What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.
ALSO...in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.
ALSO...make sure your file names aren't too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.

Oh and thanks for your help. I'm thinking it might be something wrong with my system since all this footage imports into other people's systems just fine.

Oh one clarification. We're not importing P2 cards, we're importing P2 footage that was downloaded onto a harddrive. All this P2 footage can be imported fine when using someone else's computer/system but when I use my computer and FCP 5.1.4 it doesn't work. I get a red exclamation point and an error message.

Then you might need to reinstall FCP. The BEST way would be to reformat your hard drive and install everything from scratch, but a simple reinstall on top of what you have might work too. You can try that, but then the full install might be what you need.
