Video to Flash
by David Scott on Jul 4, 2008 at 7:50:42 am

Hi
I need to convert broadcast quality programmes to Flash for VOD, and so far have been doing this through Compressor with the appropriate plugin. Problem is that a 1 hour programme takes 10 hours to convert!

I am aware of a small device by Pinnacle which you play a video signal into and it produces an MPEG4 file in real time:

What I'm trying to track down is a hardware solution that will do the same but for Flash movies.
...So I play a video signal in and get a Flash movie out - size and cost does not matter.

Anyone got any ideas???

Many thanks

There were several very long threads about Flash in the past three weeks. Use the Search Function to find them. Search Flash, SWF, and FLV

Hi Walter
I checked out the suggested threads, but no-one seems to be talking about a hardware solution?

Has anyone heard of any hardware out there that can convert a video signal to a flash file in realtime? I've got 100's of hours to convert and when I tested it using Compressor it was a 10:1 ratio - that's a lot of time! There must be an equivalent to a PAL to NTSC standards convertor out there?
All suggestions gratefully received!

Thanks

Flash is a big nut. If your source material is dense, you are dong heavy compression and, yes, it takes a while, two passes are required to maintain the best image quality.
Sorry I don't have any better advice for you. We do smaller stuff from DV, not a big deal for us. Probably best solution is to purchase an Adobe encoder product.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: "For crying out loud, read the freakin' manual."

Thanks for your comment. I've found someone who can build me a hardware encoder for £8000 that's currently under consideration, but it is a bit pricey!
Cheers
