Setting up an HDV project on non-intel mac setup
by Rich Sims on Jul 3, 2008 at 8:47:31 pm

Hello,

I have a project that a client shot on HDV and has given me the clips on a drive. I have never shot a project on or edited in HDV so this is a new one for me. The settings of the QTs are Apple HDV 1080i60, 1440 x 1080 (1888 x 1062) My question is two fold.

After reading many posts it seems that most people are taking the HDV footage and working with it in a pro-res format. Although I have an intel mac powerbook my main setup is still a pre-intel G5 dual 2.0 machine running the latest FCP. Since this is the setup with the broadcast monitors ect I will be finishing on this one. That being said it is my understanding that Pro-res will not work on a non-intel based mac. Is this true?

The next question is how I should set up my project. There doesn't seem to be an easy set-up for HDV. Should I set-up an uncompressed to retain the quality or is there another set-up I should be using.

Thanks for the help,

Take care,
Rich Sims
