Trying to help my buddy out and cut a piece on my machine (FCP 5.1.4) but am wondering he will be able to open, view, edit on his (Academic).
Has anybody ever dealt with transferring program files between the two versions?
Please let me know if you have any knowledge regarding this, or a link/source where I might be able to find the answer. Tried mac based forums and the apple site. No dice.

What version of the Academic? The Academic version of FCP can be anything....FCP 3 Academic, FCP 5.1.4 Academic, FCP 6 academic. All Academic means is that it was sold to a student for less. And the only difference between it and the full version is that it is not upgradable to the next major release. By just saying ACADEMIC you don't give us enough information. What VERSION of FCP academic?

We actually have the Academic version of Final Cut Pro 5 at work (I work at a university) and "academic" just means that you can't upgrade to the latest version, 6. It has all the same bells and whistles as the regular version, just not upgradeable (as far as I know).
