smaller increment for time code
by craig hellen (fnkydesign) on Jun 26, 2008 at 2:53:47 pm

hey all

I have a cool new project idea (just for me) taking on the audio video syncronisation to make a track out of the sound that goes with the video... we are gonna make up the track itself using wavs in ablton live and we have already started building up some interesting rhythms

Theoretically i should be able to take the in and out points of each wav file placed on the timeline in ableton, and transpose those figures on to the clips i have in final cut... but

ableton seems to be able to work a decimal place lower than final cut,

is there any way of changing this so i can work from a lower time increment in final cut or am i gonna have to cheat a bit?

We got some cool audio and it should look cool, i promise (if its any good ) ill post back on this thread with the finiahed product!

Cheereo

Craig

If what you mean is sub-frame audio editing, Soundtrack Pro does that.

Ed,

I think you'll be surprised to to know tat FCP also has sub-frame sychronization of audio and video. It's described on page 308 in the online manual. FCP will allow you slip audio in increments of 100th of a frame.

You can also move your audio keyframes sub-frame if you zoom in far enough in the timeline.

I'm not in front of my editing suite right now, but the reason I said STP is that although FCP can set keyframes and do sliding at the sub-frame level, you can't cut sub-frame (I don't think) and I believe STP allows you to do everything FCP does, plus cutting at sub-frame (and if I'm right on that, I find it much more convenient actually being able to cut rather than doing it all by key frames). bear in mind though, that it is Thursday and I go out with the guys on Wednesday night, so Thursdays aren't my best days. :-)

[craig hellen] "ableton seems to be able to work a decimal place lower than final cut, "

I guess my question is -

in video there is not really need to edit audio within the time of one frame or field. (about 60 times per second) that allows for 3600 beats / breaks per minute.

if you need more than that you need to look at some other tool.
