Final Cut/Macbook Pro/Multi Camera Live Feeds
by Chris Aguilar on Jun 25, 2008 at 9:23:15 pm

Hi there Creative Cows--
I am being asked to create something that I am not sure is entirely possible....a close friend owns a local music venue and has a C2-2250 Video Scaler hooked to a Matrix switcher. The Scaler has 1 qty DVI and 1 qty analog video output. Attached to this are two HD cameras - the matrix rotates the feeds to various TV's around the venue. I am 99% sure that this takes place in an automated fashion as he does not currently have anyone running the video board.
I want to be able to tap into the scaler and record both camera feeds simultaneously. Ideally in HD (compressed)- My studio is all Final Cut, so I pictured being able to bring in a MacBook with Final Cut loaded on it and a large hard drive to record the feeds. There is no need to be able to edit these feeds on the fly. I just need to capture the streams. each capture will be an hour at the max.

1) is this even possible?
2) any one have a recommended solution for this using final cut?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you for supporting this forum and your help!

Chris

You could capture both but only one per Mac, so it would take two machines.

You can check out ScopeBox.xom you can actually record multiple feeds (actual results may vary) if you add a second FIrewire Express34 card. the have a full working demo so you can try it out before you buy.

depending on the source format you may also have some luck with Big Mug Software's Capture Magic HD and Softron's MovieRecorder software ...
