I was shooting on P2 and stored the content of the card on an external hard disk. Now I have problem to open it in FCP with "Log and Transfer". Usually I press the "Add Folder" button and show the location of the P2 files and then they appear in the L&T window. It was like this before but not any more... Now when I add folders they just do not appear in the L&T... nothing happening... no error message, no alarm sound... nothing.
Any idea what I am doing wrong and how to import my P2 footage in FCP?

Hi,
Yes, I am having the exact same problem. I used to be able to bring in P2 footage into Final Cut just as you described. In fact, I brought in one reel of footage just this morning for a client, and now I can't bring in the other reels. I'm wracking my brain trying to understand why it worked for one reel, but now suddenly (as in a mater of minutes) the other reels just won't show up in the Log and Transfer window.
The company I'm currently editing for is running Final Cut 6.0.3 on a 2 X 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro with 4 GB RAM.
If any one nows of a way to solve this issue, it would be great to know ASAP.

Actually, I managed to make it work on a different computer. I'm told it's an issue that comes up with the combination of Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 and OS X 10.5.2. So, Final Cut may need an upgrade or something.

Did you try updating to 10.5.3?

The issue seems to be the combination of 10.5.3 and FCP 6.0.3. The Mac Pro running FCP 6.0.3 can't pull up the folder in the L&T window in FCP. But the office iMac that's running Final Cut 6.0.2 can. That's how I got around the issue for now. Hopefully Apple will put out an update fixing the issue soon.

The message before says 10.5.2. Which is it?

Sorry, I can't reproduce the problem with the same OS and FCP versions. I can correctly select the folder and populate the transfer window.

Follow-up: what you describe can occur if the media had already been loaded in the transfer window at an earlier time or some of it has already been ingested. I don't know of a work around.

footage is completely new and never ingested before.

You might want to check the Video folder on the folder to make sure the video files are still there. They are very easy to delete from inside FCP.

If you have the items selected in the transfer window and press the Delete key you'll get a warning saying this is undoable. If you continue the files will be gone from the Video folder of your card or disk image or whatever.

Ahh, yes, that makes sense, I think i did that the first time and after getting the warning message and cancelling, I found the eject button to get rid of folders filling up the log and transfer window.

[Tom Wolsky]"You might want to check the Video folder on the folder to make sure the video files are still there."
Video files are completely OK. They are on their place and i can see the content of the P2 with "P2LogPro" but I need it in FCP's "L&T" because i want to select only short parts from the whole footage I made and not import whole long shot to FCP. In "P2LogPro" not possible to use In/Out markers to select the video. I know that with "P2LP" I can export clips to FCP and then select parts I need and then delete all huge originals, but it is too many moves here and there and too much time.

If your time is money you really need to get Raylight for Mac, http://dvfilm.com/raylight/mac it will eliminate this problem and since it creates simple data links into the MXF files there is no time lost or performance penalty in bringing the entire clip into FCP. Raylight takes a moment to scan the clips, you import the links and then you can trim them with the clip viewer in FCP and drop them into the sequence. It should take no more than a few seconds even with clips that are 20 minutes or longer. You also get metadata, automatic sorting of clips and many other advantages.

[Marcus van Bavel]"you really need to get Raylight for Mac"
I do not really need it because "P2 Log Pro" on the fly creates reference files which i can load to FCP and edit the clips directly from original P2 storage location. My problem is that all the footage i have on FireStore and only %15-20 are useful and i do not want to keep the rest. I want to select only parts I need and delete the originals.
It is definitely some kind of bug in latest Apple's Leopard OS or in FCP 603 and 604. Actually I did all the job on Tiger with FCP 601 without any problem. I was easily able to load P2 folders from any location and work with that.
anyway, thank you all guys for your valuable input and help

... another thing i noticed that old FCP (601) recognizes FireStore automatically and opens the content in "Log and Transfer" as soon as utility is opened or as soon as FireStore connected to the system. FCP see FS-100 as P2 card.
New FCP do not recognize FS-100 at all even if I show him the location... unbeleivable :(
Apple, please wake up!
