Codec issues

I've lost the ability to see my clips in FCP 5.0.4. In fact, just opening a project I've worked on dozens of times brings up the ominous warning:
"Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card."
To add insult to injury, the media doesn't even play properly in QT anymore (audio but no visual). I've been reading similar problems (none of the solutions worked for me) with QT but has anyone had the same issue?

In which codec are your movies?
I remember it was a limitation in the times of FC5.0 that you could not have more than 64 elements (components) in the QT folder (Main> Library> QT).
Here is the link:
Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
G5 2x2Gh 4GbRAM-BlackMagic Extreme
PMBP 17"Core2Duo 4GbRAM-AJA ioHD
JVC DTV-17"
SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table.

The media files are HDV 1080i50, which has not been a problem in the past. Just fairly recently. Can't find anything about QT no longer supporting, or anything so very confusing.

Hi David,
Look in the folder I told you: Library> Quick Time.
Make sure that the Apple HDV Component is over there.
Also make sure that QT Pro is registered.
Trash the QT preferences (.plist).
Try to re-instal QT..

Raphael,
Thanks for those tips. On further inspection, my HD>Library>QT folder is almost completely empty, containing three files for Flip-to-Mac only. Is this usual? Doesn't sound like it to me. My Home>Library>QT folder is even worse, being completely empty. How they got liek this I do not know because I am not a fiddler and leave things alone, expecting them to work. Anyway, QT Pro is registered so I will reinstall 7.5 and see what the results are. Thanks again. I'll let you know what happens.

[David Pawsey]"QT Pro is registered so I will reinstall 7.5" David,
I don't think QT 7.5 is the best companion for FC 5.0.4
I think QT 7.3 or even earlier version can work much better.
FC 5.0.4 have been one of the more stable FC versions.
