If the file is an AI file and contains live text (not converted to outlines) you may have font substitution occurring

| | | | How to convert EPS files to TIFFS with Alpha Channels
1) Open EPS file in Photoshop
2) Image--Mode--RGB Color
3) Image--Adjustments--Auto Levels
4) Select--Load Selection (then press OK)
5) In Channels Tab add mask layer (of selection...(creates alpha))
6) File--Save As--TIFF (Mac Version)
