Final Cut Pro compatibility with JVC HD Deck
by Matt Myers on Jun 2, 2008 at 10:33:14 pm

I'm looking to digitize the footage from my doc. We have 42 hours shot on JVC GY-HD11OU HD at 720p, 30p, and we digitized everything through Final Cut Express with a JVC HD BR50 Deck. Everything worked great for me, but my editors are hesitant because FCE starts all the clips at oo:oo. So they want me to re-digitized everything through Final Cut Pro, and before I do I wanted to know if anyone knows if FCP (any version) is going to be compatible with this deck and this footage.

Thanks for your help.

That list seems to be very much behind times, missing countless number of proven tools.

Could be. I just think there's too many proven tools to test out there these days. No?

Umm
heard of Log and Capture? by logging the clips individually ( ie: setting hard in and out points on every single clip) you can capture TC correctly - it sounds as if they are being lazy and doing a Capture Now- which starts every clip the way you contend.

Unfortunately FCE doesn't do log and capture... its major shortcoming

Well, I have used that deck to capture DV footage into FCP 5.1.4 and 6.0 with no problems. Now, as far as "any version" goes "NO" that deck and that footage will not be compatible with any version of FCP.

I'm just going off of memory here and I have never used the deck or camera, but isn't there some sort of firmware update for JVC HDV?

A quick search turned up this old article:
