FCP to Youtube

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to find ways to put higher quality videos on youtube. I know that there is so much you can do due to their compression but somewhere I'm going wrong.
I uploaded 4 different types of videos ranging from h264, wmv, dv pal and avi all sized at 320 x 240 to youtube and i found that the quality was really poor on all of them. There seemed to be extreme quality loss and pixelation or some kind of deinterlacing with absolutely no sharpness. I also tried this at 720 x 576 with the same results. Compared to other peoples videos on youtube its ridiculous as mine looks like its been filmed on a phone camera.
I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas or if there are settings i haven't discovered in youtube its self which i can change or if the problem may be stemming from my original footage.
Many Thanks,
Jon
