Bug in FCP 6.0.3 with Log and Transfer
by John Orrichio on Jun 2, 2008 at 10:55:58 am

FCP 6.0.3 update will no longer transfer my clips from my Panasonic HVX 200 at DVCPRO HD 1080i60. It only transfers at DVCPRO HD 1080p30. I called Apple Pro Video support and they were able to reproduce the problem. They don't have a solution! If I import the 30p footage into my 60i sequence at the sequence settings it seems fine. The footage is interlaced in my Viewer window. If I also import this footage into a 1080p30 sequence the footage is still interlaced. Anyone else having the same problem? Will there be a problem with me using this 30p footage in my 60i timeline? Thanks... John

Did you shoot p30 or is FCP just reporting it as p30 and it's really 60i?

I shot it in 60i and now it brings them in at 30p. Other clips shot before I updated FCP that are in the time line are listed correct. It's only clips that I transfer now, be it new ones or older one that show up correctly in the sequence, and imported now come in at 30p!!! Very weird. If I throw them into the 60i timeline they look fine on playback. They look terrible in a 30p timeline! All interlaced like it was shot through window blinds.

[John Orrichio] "They look terrible in a 30p timeline!"

I just think that FCP is reporting this wrong. It's not bringing them in as 30p as the log and transfer process is basically just a data transfer so whatever you shot will show up in FCP. FCP is simply guessing wrong as to how the footage was shot. There's no other processing happening to the footage. Just make sure that the field dominance is set to 'Upper' on all of the clips and edit in a 1080i60 dvcpro HD Upper field first timeline and you should be fine.

Jeremy

Thanks Jeremy! I figured that's what was happening since they work fine in the 60i timeline even though they look bad in my viewer window. I can work around this until they fix it, if they do! Thanks again,
John
