Distributing Processing

Hi Guys,
I'm interested to know if any methods have been developed in FCP to distribute processing between machines during renders and such like, as you can in Logic.

There is no distributed rendering in FCP. Only in Compressor.

…and it doesn't seem to work very well.
The Qmaster forum at apple.com is mostly about failures, frustrations, and freakouts. Success stories are rare as hen's teeth.

Count me as a success story. We use Compressor everyday to create H.264 files for our web based review and approval site. Our render times for a one hour show have gone from hours to minutes, making this process actually practical. Yes, the software will occasionally require a reset, but the gains in productivity are worth the occasional hassle.
If you're using compressor with more than one computer, you should absolutely have "Apple remote desktop" installed to help with the setup, monitoring, and organization of your rendering clusters.
We're tapping into around 30+ G5's. It works. It can be problematic to set up and maintain, but the timesavings are worth the hassles.

Excellent and congratulations good to know Compressor and Qmaster can work in realworld situations. Has anyone at your shop considered writing up a procedural map for The Cow? You'd fill a huge void, do us all a terrific favor.

Count me in as well. I've only had one issue with Qmaster, and that was when I installed Logic on a system already running FCP. Other than that, it's a godsend. Just make sure that all of your machines are on a gigabit network for the best results.

Success for me too. I'm not distributing over a network, but creating a virtual cluster on my 8-core Mac Pro. I definitely had some problems at first trying to get the setup correct. Now everything works just fine and the speed increase is awesome.
