QT export out of sync
by Sterling Noren on May 29, 2008 at 9:51:15 pm

Hi all,

I am desperately seeking a solution to the following problem.

I have a large Final Cut Pro project that I have been working on for six months. Recently I attempted to export a couple of 50-minute sequences as QuickTime movies. I am using standard 1080i HDV presets for timelines and exporting in the same flavor. The problem is that the audio goes terribly out of sync in the export. It gets progressively worse so that it is obviously out of sync by mid way through the program. Also, I noticed that the final duration of the exported file is one or two seconds short of exactly 50 minutes, even though the timeline is exactly 50 minutes. I have not had any problems doing this basic procedure in the past but now nothing seems to work. What I have done so far is:

trashed all video and audio render files and re-rendered everything
performed audio mixdowns on all sequences prior to render
deleted all FCP preference files, cache, etc.

I even took all of the firewire media drives to a different computer (MacBook Pro) and performed the export on an entirely different system with the same results.

Can anyone please shed any light on why my audio is still out of sync in my QT exports? I feel trapped here and dont know what to do next....

thanks,

Sterling

QT version 7.4.1
FCP version 6.0.2 I think
Mac 10.4.11

I am having the same problems! If anyone has any workarounds or fixes .. please post! I have been battling this sync issue with exporting via QT or Compressor (no difference) for some time now. Thanks in advance!

I cant believe how many people have this problem. I did have some luck doing the following:

I made a new project and then dragged the sequence into the browser of the new project. When I exported the movie the sync appeared to be much better. I am not sure if this is a total fix since I didnt watch the whole program yet. Also, when I open the new export in Quicktime player it says that the duration is 49:59, when it should be 50 minutes exactly. Where did this one second go. Hmmmmm............. (scratching my head).

Hi
Excuse me for my "foreign" english :)
I also have the same problem. I don't know the cause but... I am sure it is related to long clips.

If you want to make a DVD you can fix the audio sync in DVD STUDIO PRO.. Because it is a separate file. Just adjust the audio clip in the track.. "Clip start trim" or "Clip start".

The second solution is to make smaller clips and then put them together in DVD STUDIO PRO.

The next test (every test take a long time) I will do is to uncheck the drop frame option from the sequence preferences / timeline options tab. I think that could be the cause, but it is just a silly guess.

Kike
