component to FW converter

Any suggestions for a stand-alone converter to get Betacam footage onto a MBP (preferably component to DV)?

I've heard that the ADS Pyro sucks -- true? Is there one that you'd recommend, or have heard good things about?

Thanks,
Craig

Look at Canopus. The ADVC line has always been good. ADVC-300 is a good box.

Craig,

I have a Convergent Design SD-Connect I'm no longer using. Actually mine is the Promax branded unit but it's the same box. Take a look and see if that might serve.

Keep in mind the format you will be editing in. A lot of these converters convert to DV 4:1:1 video.
I agree with Walter's recommendation for an AJA unit. They do analog and digital component i/o (and more) to a variety of different codecs for more options on future needs.
