No Communication after I click on Mastering Settings

Hello,
We are using a Panasonic AJ-HD3700B (HD D5 deck) and a Sony DVW-A500(DigiBeta) for mastering. When I click on the Mastering Setting tab in the edit to tape window click on or off what I need then go back to the video tab to record I loose communication with the deck. The only way to regain communication is to power off the computer, restart then open FCP. However, when I open up FCP I and try to master the settings in the Mastering Settings may or not be set, thus, I have to set everything then power off...and the whole cycle of madness begins or continues.

I've found the Mastering mode to be particularly troublesome with the HD3700B, so I layoff using the editing mode. I believe the only difference is you'll have to lay in your color bars and the set the reference tone manually, and if you want black to proceed your program, you'll have to cut in a slug manually also, but that's how I layoff with that deck.

That's weird. I use the DVW-M2000 for Digibeta, and it seems to work both ways, but I still use the editing mode for lay offs, as I do a lot of insert editing. I don't have the answer regarding why it's happening. At one point, I couldn't get the HD deck to recognize deck control at all and after i trashed my settings, it worked fine, so that might be one avenue to check out.
