Could I for instance buy a 42 inch panny plasma with HDMI and be ready to accurately colorgrade?"
The Panny is a good second monitor if you have something to calibrate against properly. Right out of the box the unit is far from being accurate for color grading. We spend about 20 minutes when we get a new one setting it up to match our broadcast monitors.
I use it to compare against the broadcast monitors, but always refer to our properly calibrated monitors.
As for MXO2, I believe it has Component and HD-SDI out too, does it not? So you can feed any of those to the monitor.

The MXO2 has blue gun for proper calibration, so you should get pretty good calibration of a plasma like the Panny. I'm a little disappointed that it did away with the MXO's DVI support. It does have Component and HD-SDI, but one of the biggest features of the MXO was its ability to properly calibrate a DVI monitor (Apple and Dell being the 2 biggies).

[Arnljot Bringedal]"Says HDMI monitor...... does that mean an LCD TV or PLasma TV as well?"
Correct...to any TV that has HDMI in.

Too good to be true I think. But then again, I didn't believe the MXO and Apple display could do it. But I think that instance is special. The MXO contains the LUT info for the ACD, where there are dozens of brands and dozens more models of HD TVs, so too many LUTs to store. Because it sends bars with a blue only option to those monitors, you can get them CLOSE. But I doubt broadcast quality. All remains to be seen until they are actually RELEASED and I get my hands on one. I have a Panasonic Plasma..

Just a thought - something like a Panny plasma is ideal for ISF calibration. In the UK this costs around £250, but a good calibrator will get as close as the monitor will allow to the REC709 colorspace standard for HD. They may well also be able to calibrate one of the custom settings for 601 for SD work.
There are some 'consumer' panels that respond well too - the Sony W3000 can be calibrated to be spot on 709 by a decent calibrator. Scaling SD is another matter...
I have to say I'm mightily impressed by my Panny (a PH9) for it's abillity to handle SD. It upscales the output from my Multibridge very elegantly. Colour wise it's not bad, and I haven't really started to play with it yet...
