file transfer of xd cam w/pc

hi all-
i am working on a project trying to use a pc and sony software 'proxy viewer' to do file transfers of media.

workflow- i am copying HD files to the pc 'c drive' and then back to the xd deck. seem to be operatng software correctly but the process takes forever.

i realize i am working with a pc that is a few years(5) old.

i am really interested in hearing what people are using, hardware wise, to make this process tolerable.
