HDV to ProRes 422 sequence benefits
by Hamilton Robinson on Feb 24, 2008 at 8:32:24 pm

I am interested in peoples thoughts.

Is there any significant benefit to converting my sequence which is HDV to ProRes after editing?

I know I should have captured in ProRes first but I am thinking of a finished project captured and edited in HDV and if there is a benefit to know going ProRes as a sequence.

Will I gain anything at export to QT file or going through compressor export as a Pro Res sequence?

Cheers

Ham

FCP 6 has the ability to render to ProRes in HDV sequences. Hit command-zero and dig around for the render settings.

If this is improving quality or not depends only on the amount of graphics, fx or color grading you use and the final output format. You don't gain anything for HDV itself.

[Uli Plank] "You don't gain anything for HDV itself. "

Yeah, expect for the long conform time that everyone complains about. Reason enough right there.
