Screen Capture Software
by michael_kroesenx on Dec 6, 2007 at 11:36:49 pm

Hi I want to create some tutorials. Rather than shoot my screen with my video camera I would rather find an application that will record what I'm doing. Ideally this application will record good enough quality quicktime footage that I can then edit in FCP for final delivery on the web via H264. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Mike

Just be aware that with iShowU, it doesn't record TC to the QT file...so if you edit the clip, and then export, the export DOES NOT RECOGNIZE the editing you have done...it just plays the clip, unedited (except for audio) until the QT stops. ALSO, audio sync drifts.

SOLUTION: import the file into FCP...export it as a self contained QT movie. THEN TC is added. Reimport that and use that.

Or you can use SNAPZPro. Issue with THAT one is that even if you record 30fps, FCP only sees it as 10fps. YOu need to use Cinema Tools to conform the clip to 30fps, then all is well.

Sheesh...

If you had to start a new instructional video project, having never worked with either program,
which would you choose?

Thanks!

Of you are on Leopard, I'd take a serious look at this:
