Edit to Tape - suddenly stops working correctly
by lightning ad on Oct 22, 2007 at 1:12:34 pm

I am trying to Edit to Tape a rendered secquence but for reasons i cannot fatom, the vision is not working.

When i edit to tape, the vision is on the window that appears on the desktop, but the video does not appear on my broadcast monitor (which is monitoring the input to the DVW M2000P Digibeta). What i am seeing is "digital noise patterns" or a totally black screen).

The video IS present when cutting and playing back on the timeline (and when viewing it through EE on the digibeta.

One other thing i have noticed that rarely happened before....when using the Edit To Tape i see a black screen with white text (on desktop) with the words Outputting Video To Tape. this switches to the actually video at the timecode set in the edit to Tape window

Anyone got any ideas what is going on here?

This is something i have done hundreds of times on this system and its worked almost flawlessly so far!

system spec - Quad G5, 4gb ram, Xserve raid, Kona 3, os 10.4.10, FCS2

Hi
How are you initiating the ETT process?
I find that dragging the Sequence icon from the Browser first to the Viewer, then repeating the Browser icon drag to the ETT window's Assemble (or Insert) overlay seems to be the only way to get everything to work.

I usually drag from the browser into the ETT window and drop onto the Assemble overlay. I have just tried your suggestion and it makes no difference. I have also tried an insert instead of assemble and again no difference.

I have a horrible feeling a complete re-install is looming!!

EDIT>>>>

i think i have found the problem....the sequence has gone and got itself set to photo jpeg instead of 10 bit uncompressed !

Ain't it just typical that you check everything under the sun, rip out all the cables, re-install drivers and then find its a simple little little thing like that!

I was just going to ask if your output is matching your sequence settings. It sounded to me you were working in 8 bit but your output video was set to 10bit.

Good catch.
