Naked Blonds Here II - Need some geniuses like Tom Wolsky
by Richard Martz on Jul 31, 2007 at 12:27:32 am

Attention Friends and Colleagues who need a challenge.

I posted this before several days ago. I've been out of town andI'm just getting back to teh problem. As a refresher here is what I said:

I'm trying to capture some ordinary DV footage. When capturing it looks like everything is going fine. But when the footage is played back the problem becomes evident. FCP will only capture about 20 seconds of footage and then it freezes the video and jumps ahead a few seconds. I've tried firewire drives and faster SATA drives. I've trashed preferences and (re)loaded the FCP program. Nothing seems to correct the problem. Ideas?

Someone suggested a new firewire cable. Since then I've tried a new Firewire cable to no avail.

I'm using Final Cut 5.1 Universal on a G5, Dual 2.7 GHZ. I have 4.5GB of memory and the OSX is 10.4.10. Tom Wolsky asked me to check and see which version of Quicktime I'm using and I would love to give that information but I'm not sure how to do that. The software listing in "about this MAC" says I have two versions:

7.2 that came on the machine installed on 9/24/05
AND version 7.0.2 That was apparently loaded when I routinely updated Quicktime software on 7/19/2007. That may have been about the time the problem started but I can't say for sure.

If the problem rests in having 2 versions of the Quicktime Player software on the computer at the same time. How do I get rid of one of them? Also is/are the Quicktime player software version(s) I'm looking at the same Quicktime program that is being used by Final Cut? I'm just stupid this way. Please be patient.

I also have a Kona LH card. As a workaround I tried to capture using the component out from the camera and I got the same problem. So I'm pretty sure the problem is within Final Cut and not with the devices that I have connected. I've also tried several different cameras that I own as well and each one gives the same problem. Capturing Betacam footage through the Kona gives the same problem.

For whoever solves this I will send some naked blond brownies that I will bake myself.

Sorry about that. I originally posted this with a different title and got no response. However if you'll read the end of the message you'll realize that we are all need God's grace as we all have our heads in the gutter. Naked Blonde Brownies are my favorite dessert and not pornographic or disrespectful of women in the least.

[zrb123] "Please be more respectful to woman."

Note....no reference is made about WOMEN in the subject line. NAKED BLONDES. Could be a bunch of naked guys. Naked editors....

*shiver*

That conjures up a BAD image.

Sounds like a time to do a full system reinstall...archive and install, or backup, erase and install....then install FCP. Make darn sure it is good.

But I ain't no Tom Wolsky...

[David Roth Weiss] "Yeah, you guys in Utah sure know how to treat 'em..."

That has nothing to do with it.

I just don't think that putting something like that in a subject heading just to get people is read it is appropriate.

I know, Its just been a long couple of days so I am tired.

I like to think that guys in Utah are experts at knowing how to treat woman. It is the marriage capital of the world.

Problem is there are way to many people who think they know video, and offer a video for next to nothing because daddy bought their computer and camera. Thus the reason I don't like doing weddings.

Ok I'm sorry I used the cute little misleading Blond subject. Could someone tell me if I should delete the older Quicktime player? Thanks in advance.

Re: GET RID OF THAT QT
by rafalaos on Jul 31, 2007 at 4:26:13 am

Richard,

- Download and save (not install) the last version of QT.
- Go to Library> Receipts
Delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime713.pkg. (be carefull with other files QT related: QTMPG2, QTProMedia etc).
- Install the QT that you have just downloaded, and reboot. Repair permissions.
This should work fine. I read this only few months ago in the Apple web-site but I can not find now the documents. It seems that the system can get confusd when having few of those receipts. The system only need the one of the last installed version.
Cheers,
rafael

[zrb123] "How about a real subject heading"

Keep in mind that not only does the subject line appear at the top of the browser page, but the subject line is also used in searches. So, in time are you going to remember to search for "naked blondes" or are you going to search for the real question?

BTW

"blond" refers to men.

"blonde" refers to women.

So he WAS talking about men!

Please be more respectful of men, darn-it!
