Reading avi timecode
by Jeff Jones on Jul 18, 2007 at 4:24:47 pm

I'm working with several avi files captured on a PC with Premiere Pro 2. My FCP 5.1.4 opens each file with no problem, however it starts each clip at zero timecode instead of reading the time of day code on each clip. Is there a way of reading the timecode without redigitizing each clip from the original source tapes?

It sounds like the clips may have been captured, trimmed up and then exported from Premiere.

Before you go nuts, check with the person who gave you the clips. In Premiere, they should import the clips THEY gave you -- not the clips already on the machine -- and then check the time codes.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they all start at zero.... which makes it their problem, not yours.
