iPhone FCP
by blub06 (Blub06) on Jun 29, 2007 at 2:28:37 pm

Now that I have cut a few projects on my iPhone with FCP in emulation mode, does anyone have any opinions regarding using the screen for accurate color correction and why does the text from the text tool look funky?

Thanks

Chris

For $499 it must have a broadcast quality HD monitor, right?

BTW, rumor has it that AJA will be coming out with a sub-miniature Kona card and breakout box for the iPhone soon. But, Apple will most likely cripple the phone so it can't capture ProRes 422.

Yea but using multiple iPhones as a render cluster is working miracles with my compression times.

I wonder if there's any limit on the number of iPhones one can use in a render farm?

Well I'm up to 6 iPhones, 3 Mac Minis, 2 Apple IIe's and a ball of string with no problems. I started compressing my 2k Feature about an hour ago and its 1/4th done, and cover slow still works like a champ on the iPhone.

Not to shabby if I do say so.

Anyone know where to get one of those BRAZIL style screen magnifyers and holder? I can barely see what I am doing, and I am very tired of squinting.

Still awaiting an eSATA card for the iPhone so I can hook up my RAID. What's taking so long?

But the thing renders FAST! Faster than my buddies Quad. We tested that.

Forget that, check out Apple's new internal xraid mini with the wireless xsan option - gives you uncompressed HD with WiFi SAN that allows you and everyone at Starbucks to collaborate seamlessly on those big History Channel projects.

I don't think DiscoveryHD will accept anything cut on an iPhone. Unless JVC announces it an a press release 1st.

It's the full package!

I just shot a little b roll with the internal camera, worked like a charm...

Now its not just your post machine its covers the pre pro AND the shooting AND the post.

And it drives not one but two 30" apple monitors!

HELP!!

I was cutting away and going at a quick pace when suddenly my iPhone RANG! An incoming call! Gah...ahh...so I answered it and it was my wife, asking me to pick up milk on the way home. But when I hung up and went back to FCP...it was gone! Unexpectedly quit. And now my file is corrupt.

I found the autosave vault and was able to open it and only lost about 30 minutes work. But hey...Is there any way I can disable the phone features of this? I really don't want to be interrupted by a call.

Ah... I knew there was a reason Apple hasn't updated the XRAID in years, seemingly ignoring this strange phenomenon known as "4 Gigabit fibre." Now I know what their engineers have been putting together for the next gen. of their RAID...

Sorry dude, Peter Wiggins and I were cutting on the iPhone at NAB. It worked like a charm, don't know why the text looks so bad on your end. Did you try Boris 3D? The text is usually cleaner.

And when I finally got through to tech support, I had multiple windows open on the screen but I couldn't read them and listen to support at the same time since I didn't know how to turn on the Dolby 5.1 speakerphone option. Damn PDF help menus anyhow. Give me a paper manual anytime...

To heck with the manuals, I've just signed up for Apple's Expert iphone training program. It's a 10 month intensive coarse for only $8,999.99! I'll come away an expert with no need for the manual. However I'll still need to lay out another $499.00 for the coarse text books. The iphone should be available in Canada by the time I graduate too!

Rennie,

Make certain to buy your iPhone before you graduate, as the $10 academic discount will apply.

If I buy the academic version will I still be able to upgrade to the iphone2? It should be out shortly after and mac rumours reported it will have a weed eater too! (for attacking blackberries)
