i'm considering the purchase of Boris FX and just trying to compare all the apples and oranges involved. wondering if Motion 3 will do much of what Borix FX does, and how either compare to After Effects. feedback from any of you who have used all of them would be very cool when you get a chance. thanks a bunch!

thanks for helping out a bonehead!

The main issue with Boris stand-alone effects systems is their weird interface. But, umm, that's why I can;t stand to use Motion. I'm completely brainwashed after ten years of After Effects indoctrination. Also depends on your workflow and needs to integrate with other applications. If you edit in Premiere, Motion is a waste of money.

Try to come up with a simple 30 second project and then build it using the demo versions of each of the applications. Or try to find buddies who have the apps and will let your test drive them. The paradigms and the project workflows totally different.

My advice: Buy After Effects. If you need some of the ultracool and unique Boris filters, buy one of their AE plugin sets.

Like Aperture and Soundtrack Pro, Motion is a useless eater of drive space on my systems.

I use After Effects almost every day.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: "For crying out loud, read the freakin' manual."

thanks for the advice. there is a "special offer" from Digital Juice to get Boris FX 9 for only $149, but it sound like (even for the low price) there are better alternatives. i know AE is THE standard, though i've never used it. i've gotten by with NewTek's AURA, then when i switched to the Mac and FCP, i've been using Motion for the little bit of stuff i need to do, and an occaisional jump back to Lightwave on my PC for some 3D stuff. maybe i should go ahead and just get AE...
