OT - Screen Capture software for PC
by Wayne K 123. on May 17, 2007 at 11:54:07 am

Hi,

I use SnapZ Pro-X and am loving it.

But my colleague is running a PC. Can anyone recommend a good PC screen-capture program [with video].

Thanks,

Wayne

[Wayne K 123.] "I use SnapZ Pro-X and am loving it."

Can't help you with the PC software, but as an aside, are you running SnapZ ProX on an Intel workstation? We're trying out the demo and it keeps crashing on my Mac Pro 3.0 and the tech support hasn't been all that helpful in finding a reason yet.

I've used Camtasia and it works quite well. They have a 30-day trial with no maximum capture time or watermark. At $299 it's pricey compared to Snapz ProX 2 at $69.
For PC here is an inexpensive option, but I haven't tried it

Thank you all for the direction.

I'll pass it on.

Check versiontracker.com or download.com. Search for "screen capture". Sort by user rating or editor rating.

I've been messing with Camtasia a little bit (PC only) and it seems pretty good. The biggest question right now is what program to edit it in. Does anyone have any suggestions? It looks like After Effects might be work best but I haven't fully expermented with Avid or Premiere. Also, this may seem stupid, but is there a tutorial that anyone has come across for this? I'm trying to create a training video for a client's software product. Not sure what the best way to tackle it is (use a screen capture program vs. recording out to a deck, etc.). Seems ironic that I need a training video to make a training video, I know, but I just haven't worked with screen capturing programs before so I want to minimize the pitfalls if possible.

Thanks in advance.
