Easy HDV Questions...I think
by harveyhead on Apr 2, 2007 at 5:17:37 pm

I am trying to not be scared of all the posts about everyones HDV problems...

Here's my latest question - hopefully its a quickie for you guys -

-My tapes are HDV 1080i @ 29.97 --
-My Camera is a SONY HDR-FX7

At the moment I am VERY low on storage and CAN NOT afford to capture @ full 1080x1440 -

I read that the Sony cameras have the ability to Downconvert while capturing...and then if needed I can go back later and Up-Res if needed.

So - I'm you sure all know the Basics of my problem -

**At DV NTSC - this capture is looking "SQUEEZED"
**At DV NTSC ANAMORPHIC - I have letterbox.

**What should I make my Capture and Sequence Settings?
For now, delivery will most likely be a QT - for the web - Maybe a DVD...So...
Can FCP compensate for this while capturing to make it 4:3? or do I need to do
somethin' else and convert it somehow?
AND are there other settings I need to worry about like Interlacing and such?

Thanks! -
JHARVEY

HDV takes up just about the same space as DV douse so down-converting will not do much for you.

Sense you are very low I sagest getting a new hard drive, drives are cheep and you want to keep 10-20% free on your hard drive anyway.
