Hi all,
I'm having a problem capturing footage shot on a SDX900 camera. I am going out from an AJ-HD1400 deck via firewire into the FCP 5.1.4 but after trying all the presets... still I get nothing... any advice would be useful. Thanks in advance.

I am also trying to capture from an HD1400 DVCPro deck from a tape that was shot 24P. In the menu I changed, 023 to 422 and 022 to manual. I see my image in the capture tool for FCP, but my capture aborts after 3 seconds with the error: Capture enountered a problem reading the data on your source tape., blah, blah. I know the tape is good. Any more menu settings to try and get this 24p out of this 1400 deck?
Thanks!

How?
this is traditionally an issue when there is not enough pre-roll to cover the in or out point or you are trying to capture bars and tone at the head of the tape (which are never the frame rate you think they are)

Sorry I did not read the previous poster that you mimic with these settings
If you se the deck in the manner you said above - the deck in no longer outputting HD content ONLY SD. You will not be able to capture HD over FW.

That was going to be my question, are you trying to capture HD or SD? The above steps were mentioned for DV50 (SD) material being played out of the firewire of the 1400.

Thanks for all the help! I am trying to capture SD. The issue isn't the timecode, there aren't any breaks. So unfortunately, it's not a pre-roll issue. I wish it was that! I'd just dub the tape. The tape was shot SD, DVCPRO50, 24p. I know it has something to do with the frame rate, but with 600 settings in the HD1400, hmm? Do you have to have a Kona card to bring 24p into FCP?
Before I changed the HD1400 menu setting from HD to 422, I got a bunch of crazy lines. So with 422, I can see it and the 3 seconds it does capture is in sync. Sorry for the needle in the haystack. Any more help would be greatly appreciated!

No other firewire devices. I'm bringing it into my Macbook pro which currently only has one port. I'm also using Final Cut Express HD and I can't seem to find a place to change my video/audio settings other than easy setup. I'm also an Avid person bumbling my way through FCP.
So to answer about advanced pulldown or 24p, not sure. How would I check in Express?
Thanks again for all the patience. If anyone needs any avid help, let me know!

Bummer. I already tried that. Picture turns to static. I'm gonna do a test tonight with something else shot DVCPRO50, but shot at 59.94. I'll let you know. Thanks again. I know it has something to do with the 24p, I feel it in my gut!

[NikkiParker]" know it has something to do with the 24p"
i hate to break it to you, but it doesn't. It has to do with FCP Express. If you had the full blown version of FCP, you could capture in the DV50 codec. FCP Express only captures to DV or HDV and nothing in between. You need to get that deck to spit out plain ole DV over the firewire and then you will be golden.
