Apple is having an "event" today. Wonder if the new MacPros and/or Leopard is ready yet? We shall soon see....

Seems early for Leopard though about right for a new tower. THAT would be most cool.

How often do you buy computers? Didn't you just get a bunch of MacPros? lol

I have a dual 2Ghz machine that I won't be replacing anytime soon. If I do I need all new RAM and a new capture card. And this machine is working just fine.

But I still want a OCTO-core macPro....

About every 6-12 months depending on what's going on. I think we got the Mac Pro around November if I remember correctly and actually wish we had purchased the Quad G5 instead.

IF the new machines are octo-cores like have been rumored, that would be a real reason to upgrade the Mac Pro. Since we have three suites here now, we just slide the machines on down. I get the newest one (of course!) and my Mac Pro would slide to JungleLand and the G5 Quad would slide to the Rialto Room. Then we use the old G5 Dual 2.0 for DVD's and graphics.

See, it all works! :-)

"Uh-oh" (voice of Scritch from the movie Ice Age). I just ordered a tricked out Mac Pro less than a month ago and it's not here yet. I wonder If they'd let me upgrade in mid stream. Must make a mental note to phone my local Apple supplier if the rumor pans out.

I have heard of this happening in the past with Apple swapping out the older machine for a newly announced one IF the machine has not shipped yet. If it has shipped, they probably won't take it back unless it's defective.

Yeah, well I heard that there was an offical event and they usually kick off at 10 AM. Just wondering what is going on 'cause I'm so RIPE for a new tower. And I want to be ready for "whatever" might be coming down the pipe at NAB. Wondering how FC Studio will scream on one of those monsters. Ya gotta love being an editor these days gang. :-)

Re: New MacPros and/or Leopard Today? - Apple Store Up

Well I did notice that the Apple Online Store is still there. As we all know, the store disappears when a new product is about to be announced so they can "update" it, so I guess keep an eye on the store and see if it goes down at all today.

With your "dropping down through the suites" of equipment, you will eventually have a decent set up in your break room and broom closet!

Well, our 'break room' has been a victim of our own success. The "Entertainment Room" you see on our website is now the Rialto Room edit suite. We only have the kitchen and bathroom left, but I guess a G5 could fit next to the coffee machine. :-)

What "event"? The rumors sights don't say a thing... they're usually buzzing if there's anything going on.

Looks like a bogus rumor at this point. No change to the Apple site.

I thought you got this from an actual Apple press announcement or something, not off a rumor site. rumors sites are also where Final Cut Pro 6 was a sure thing to be announced at NAB 2006.

During the January SF Keynote, Steve Jobs did say something like "there would be some really big things coming in the next few months with apple's professional poducts". Of coarse my brain interpetted this to mean the octa processors, FCS6 and Leopard. It was the one hint, almost apoligetic amongst the i-phone rant, that we would have to wait, it was not ready yet but big things were coming.

....by the way, what were those rumor sites someone mentioned?

My apologies, I thought I heard it on a podcast and then found the rumor online. Anyway, nothing to see here. Move along.

Its so funny to see everyone get all giddy at the slightest whisper of something new.

If you want to know what is new with Apple just look at apple.com, Apple will say there is something new if there is something new.
