Sorry Trevor I couldn't answer your post about seting up a monitor for PAL but using the NTSC bars.
You ask me about the results taking in account that PAL ans NTSC are different color spaces. In fact they use basically the same colour "filosophie" and this doesn't afect to the phosphorus (?) of the screen. In many production facilities are working normally with the two standards and they use the same monitor. The monitor detect the format of the incomming signal and sets it self in sync, but the screen dont have to be adjusted every time.
