Is an AVI Export possible?
by Robinson on Dec 23, 2006 at 4:25:41 am

I need to find out if i can export a sequence as an AVI file from FCP. If it is possible then, is there a possibility of a lossless/ uncompressed transfer (HUFF YU?)

Thanks in advance!!!!

Export a ref QT and get MpegStreamclip (squared5.com). It will then export the AVI movie. Remember that you have a 2 gig file size limit so you have only a little over 2 minutes before you run out of space. However if you use PJPEG compression on the AVI (Streamclip now supports it) you can put longer clips into the AVI container.

Have a look.

the only way that I can think of trying other than exporting a ref and putting it through cleaner is to look at http://www.flip4mac.com/. They have an encoder that may work within the export of FCP but I haven't tried it.

good luck

You can do it directly from FC using QT convertion (mov to AVI), but as Rich says with MPGstreamclip you got more options than with QT.

You can export out of FCP as an AVI file. Just export using the Export-Quicktime Conversion menu. Then under Format, change to AVI. Then under AVI settings, set the video settings to None (Uncompressed) Also, make sure you change the depth to Millions.

But don't mistake NONE (RGB 444) with 8/10bits Uncompressed (YCrCb 422). The first one make huge files.
