does anyone know how I create a border around my text....for instance a black border around a white text to make it stand out against a background.

Look for outline or use shadow.

Pretty basic bro. Have you even looked in your generators bin? Do you see OUTLINE TEXT? That might give you a clue....

First rule in doing titles in FCP is DON'T use FCP's title generator. You should always use Title3D in the Boris generators tab. When you do use that tool you'll see all kinds of outline, shadow, color, bevel, gradient, etc options.

Yup. You can actually put 5 borders around text!
