Tomorrow I go to the Apple store and get th 17 inch Mac Book Pro (2.16).. and Final Cut Studio 5.1.
I have 2 one hour projects in FCP 5.0 and I am of course feeling a bit timid about the change. I need to make the change because I want to take the projects on the road with me so that I can edit while on the road... I considered just getting a PowerBook G4 1.67 .... but but....
How much faster is the 2.16 Mac Book Pro vs the PowerBook 1.67 ?
I would love to hear from people (any feedback) who are working with FCP and Motion on the MacBook Pro.

Not even compareable.
My MBP 2.0 15" is much faster than the Powerbook 1.67 I had before. So much so that I was wondering how it compared to my old Dual G5 and it's faster than that in most operations. It's just a totally different world. The only real hitch with it is the Adobe apps.
Now, I should tell you that it's pretty certain that there are new MBPs coming out soon that will have the Core 2 Duos in them and will probably be 10-30% faster.

Thanks George... those are the exact tid bits I was searching for!!
I saw a MAC Book PRO.. running Multi Clip on FCP at the Apple store and it was stuttering a it.. I never get that on my DUal 2.5 G5... Maybe that store model did not have enough RAM...

Most likely or there were apps running in the background or...who knows wht they do in the Apple store :) I have 2 gigs of ram in mine and have no problems. Motion runs better than my any of my previous macs ever did.

Only just that Apple is probably going to put the new Core 2 Duo CPU form Intel in the MBP. If you are not in a panic then you may want to hold off for a month or less. If you are in a panic, then go ahead. Personally, I could not care less as I am already very happy with mine and wouldn't trade the productivity I have enjoyed from it for the past 5 months for any new laptop.

Hi, I got my MBP and moved to FCP right after NAB this April. Mainly because the company I do most of my freelance work uses Macs and FCP. I must say I am very happy with the hardware and software. This fall we hit 18 cities in 14 days shooting interviews. I traveled with the MBP and a 250 gig ext Lacie FW HD. All worked great no problems.
My only problem is after installing FCP Studio and Aperture the HD is pretty full. I think I need to remove programs I do not use but am hesitant to do so , being unfamiliar with the Mac and being a fairly new user to the OS. I don

Tom, when you installed FCP Studio did you just do a "normal" instal or did you hand-pick what to load?
I ask, because programs like Motion and DVD Studio Pro have GBs of templates, loops, and graphics in them. When you instal everything you can chose which things to put on your computer. On my desktop I just load everything but on my laptop I cut a lot more of that stuff out.
