Why do I have to render my AVI's audio track? soo confused

So the footage was captured via a Firestore to AVI. The company has nice PC laptops that we edit with in the field...im begging them for macs....But here at the production house we edit with FCP. When I import the clips into FCP it tells my to use media manager to optimize the clips. I tried that once and nothing changed. Right now when i drop a clip onto the timeline I need to render the audio. This is annoying when i am trying to convince the bosses here that FCP is faster, better, more reliable, etc.
Am I doing something wrong? The sequence settings match the clip settings....what else do I need to check?

Sorry... That will always be the case. AVI's are a PC type of video, not Mac friendly unless you have Flip4Mac's WMV. And then, importing AVI's is not a good idea. FCP is Quicktime native only. The codecs and the way files are read are very different on the PC as compared to the Mac. Therefore, you are always going to have problems.
Just for my benefit.... Why did your company purchase PC laptops for the field and use FCP to edit? That's very silly! The two will never be totally compatible, even if you figure a way to record Quicktimes on you PC laptops.
One thing to look at... What codec is your AVI's writing its audio to? Look at that, and see if the Mac has a similar codec for its audio. That's your only shot.

We offer 2 different types of products, and the one for the field needs PC for most of the programming. We do very basic editing int he field and use the same PC laptops for this use.
I hav eno clue about what codec it writes to when it captures to the Firestore. But I do know that the numbers and settings in my bin are the same for the clip and the sequence. I guess i will just render em out.

I normally work in 8-bit uncompressed SD, but recently I copied AVIs from a hard drive for an edit and they worked perfectly with no render. It's possible that the audio track was recorded at 44.1kHz instead of 48kHz which is required by FCP (and most professional video applications and hardware). There's nothing you can do about it now other than render. However, check how the audio was recorded. If it was at 44.1 in the future use 48 and it should work.
