	Best way to export Premiere 6.5 EDL to FCP 5.1 by Khashyar Darvich on May 15, 2006 at 5:18:47 pm Hi Everyone, I have a project on Premiere 6.5 that I want to export to Final Cut Pro 5.1 for the online edit. I have read that if I create a "CMX3600" EDL, that FCP will be able to read it. However, my question is will FCP reconstruct all of the video and audio layers that were created with Premiere 6.5, and then reconstruct them in a FCP sequence? CMX lists can have only 2 tracks of video and 4 tracks of audio at the same time, so you need to export separate EDL's containing no more than these each, then remarry them in FCP without Automatic Duck in your arsenal. And if you have graphic files involved, there's all sorts of gotchas that will crop up with CMX technology... it's really old and just isn't the best way to go here...Also CMX lists with any error in them whatsoever will not import into FCP, so there's a lot of gotchas there too. I checked out the www.automaticduck.com website, and their software tools seem to specifically work with Premiere "Pro," and not Premiere 6.5 Perhaps the best solution is to try to reduce my timeline to 2 video and 4 audio tracks. Do any of these retain more than 2 video and 4 audio tracks? Generic EDL Grass Valley EDL CMX 3400 CMX 3600 Sony BVE 5000 Sony BVE 9000 Sony BVE 9100 At the moment, I have 5 video tracks (including the track 1 A and B), and 5 audio tracks. I actually am going to import the EDL to a new FCP suite that I purchased, so I can do testing myself to make sure that it will go smoothly. I will go over my timeline in Premiere and try to reduce the video tracks to 2, and audio to 4. By the way, if I need to batch digitize from 2 different decks (a DV and BataSP via a Kona LHe), can the FCP Batch digitizing command handle that? One more question that I hope you can answer: When FCP looks for 2 video tracks, does the EDL consider the "Video 1A" and "Video 1B" tracks as two seperate tracks, or... does the EDL that is going to be imported into FCP consider "Video 1" and "Video 2" as the two distinct tracks. In Premiere 6.5, the Video "1A" and "1B" are handled as seperate tracks, with different video being able to be placed in each of those layers of the "Track 1". I am trying to understand whether I can keep my two separate tracks on the "Video 1A" and "Video 1B" tracks, or whether it is best to keep video ONLY on "Video 1A" and "video 2" Thank you again for your help, Khashyar Respond to this post   •   Return to posts index

It gives me an error message after I open the Premiere-generated EDL in FCP. I may need to reconstruct the film by hand, after I hand create all of the clips in a batch list in Ms Excel.
