"iTunes Music Store" selections and FCP are not directly compatible.
This is by design for copyright protection.
iTunes CAN convert "NON iTunes Music Store" selections to 48 kHz AIFF files (I do this every day), but iTunes will not convert "iTunes Music Store" selections to another format.

Actually Itunes can convert Itunes purchased music to be used in FCP, and (wait for it) I do this every day.
I am working under a blanket music licence with a broadcaster (see below) and everybody gets paid beacuse I have a 2 PA's that file music returns, publisher & composer details etc.
Now, If i told you how to do it, that would be illegal ;)

i want my free 48Khz marshmellows,
on a side note theres a really awsome tutorial about how to make an aiff converter in compressor to take all those files that you will be converting and put them into a folder

Well, assuming one has a blanket license, etc.... highlight track, burn cd, drag file from CD onto hard drive. Drag file to bin. I assume that's not the secret, because it's hardly a very convenient workaround and people have discussed it here numerous times. Apple themselves advertise you can burn the songs you guy to CDs all you want.

I work under Sky's blanket agreement, and spend my life burning CDs. Can you tell me?!
Since there are lots of legal circumstances where you might need to do this, why do we always have to tiptoe around this topic? The music industry earns millions of pounds/dollars a year from licenced music and blanket rights agreements. My 3000+ music library is the reason I ALWAYS take my PB to all jobs - so useful when a well-meaning AP turns up with a track you just HATE. I'm not even copying the track if all I do is convert it, surely?
I reckon Coldplay at least owe me a christmas card by now - I must have bought them a new car each from the royalties they got last summer from me. I'm SO sick of 'fix you'...

I have a licensed music library (Killer Tracks). Put the disc in the drive. "Get CD Track Names" from the advanced menu. Most of Killer Tracks are on CDDB. Set import format to aiff 48K. Import track or tracks into iTunes. Preview music in iTunes. Right click (control click) on chosen clip in iTunes. Choose show in Finder. Drag chosen clip from finder to project bin. Drop clip from bin to timeline. Bob is your uncle.

Maybe, but they haven't got the DRM that Itunes purchased music has.
Matte, thanks for being my unpaid copy checker, but I stand with my original sentence.
A bit vague, possibly but you know the law!
