Connecting TV monitor to computer to test PHOTOSHOP text
by mike kranyak (Mike Kranyak) on Feb 25, 2006 at 2:56:07 pm

I have producers/clients who create text for me in PHOTOSHOP. Would like them to view their work on a TV monitor before saving and sending them to me. WHat's best way to connect monitor to computer.....? thanks.. mike k.

DO A SEARCH! There are tons of postings about this all over the COW. Here's a couple, but c'mon
just type "connect TV to computer" and you'll see, um, A TON!

AJA Video - Serial Digital Video Interface and Conversion has Kona SD, Kona 2 and Kona 3 boards depending on the model of Mac and its PCI, PCIx or PCIe your clients have. These definitely work with Adobe After Effects and Photoshop. They might just need one of AJA's IO's which can be attached externally through a firewire port. The IO's are around $1000. Check their forum here.

I believe, but can't confirm the lower cost Blackmagic Design cards do this also. I don't know why they wouldn't since they wrote the drivers for the original AJA Kona cards.

I am less familiar with the Aurora Video Systems products.

All of these manufacturers have a forum here at the Creativecow.net so you can post a query in their forums.

Now the big question is how long you will remain just doing SD video or when you are going to move to HDTV resolutions.

HTH,

Don't worry Mr. B. I have a cunning plan...

PowerBook 1.67 Ghz ATI 9700 128 MB 2 GB
Mac OS X 10.4.5 QuickTime Pro 7.0.4
Final Cut Pro HD
DVD Studio Pro 3
Motion
After Effects 6.5

No problem. It's a pet peeve of mine. As long as it helps you learn all the resources of the COW, I'm happy.

Before you BUY something...

All of these cards being suggested to you can do all sorts of great things, but IF you have Photoshop CS2 and IF you are editing in DV-resolution, then you can simply use a firewire camera or converter to view your photoshop images on a video monitor.

Granted, that's two "ifs" but it's worth pointing out, all the same.

Excellent point Jeff.
