Digital Camera MPG Audio

I have a ton of footage taken with a Sony and Canon Digital Cam. The movie format is MPG NTSC. When I import into Final Cut there is no audio hwever when I play the clips in QT the audio is there. I tried exporting with QT Pro and the audio settings are faded out. SO far the only way I have found to recover the audio is to import the clips into Cakewalk Pro Audio then export the audio clips seperately. Is there any other converter out there that will resave the movie data in a Final Cut friendly format? Preferably a MAC OSX app. Thanks in advance for any info you may have.
