Audio File Question
by Bob DeLano on Dec 3, 2005 at 4:35:13 pm

I just completed the voice over audio track for a short projct - about two minutes - and need to send it off as an AIFF or WAV file to another shop. What recomendations are there to keep the quality OK but the file size small. It's just a single narration, and as a Linear PCM file, 48k, mono, it's about 10 meg. I'd like to shrink the file size a bit...

Thanks

You could run it through A.Pack and compress it to the 192 bit rate setting. That'll drop the file size to around 1 meg instead of 10. You'll end up with the DVD audio standard of an .ac3 file format. A.Pack shipped as a stand alone app with Compressor 1 and it's now part of Compressor 2.

If you zip a 10 Meg file it should shrink it to about 8.4 Megs. It's not a lot, but if you need to deliver aiff or wav, I think it's the best you can do.
