Capturing Issues
by Ben Baudhuin on Aug 11, 2005 at 4:56:07 pm

When I'm capturing in final cut using a sony dsr 45 dv cam deck i have been experiencing a problem. I attempt to batch capture and when it cues the source material it will start playing to capture and then it will freeze and continue a few secs later, when I view the clip after it has captured it will be totally out of synch the audio will be nowhere near the video. Now it plays fine in the tape and it plays fine on the monitor but When it captures something is wrong, I can't even do capture now because it just freezes and It won't abort. Please help this is driving me crazy I have been capturing hours of footage only to find out that it is totally messed up, Any suggestions???

do you have a blackburst signal? How do you capture? Firewire or breakout box? Do you have a 422 control on the machine?

The 422 control 's always better than firewire. Wich codec do you use? It sounds to me, that your system's not fast enough. Another problem could be a sync signal, but if you use firewire dirctly it seems not likely to me. Do you have timecode gaps between clips?

Just using the DV Ntsc codec, and I'm sure that the system is fast enough I'm on a G5 so I don't think that is the problem, There are time code breaks but not really during any of the consecutive clips that I was capturing. I was thinking that it might be the tape? But I don't really know if that's possible they are pannasonic mini DV tapes so It's not some wierd brand or anything. Well any other tips you could give would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot
