What's an Avid?

Not in its current rev. Most of the proprietary breakout boxes do not use FW to send the DV signal to a deck or transcoder so do not suffer this latency. You will get used to it anyway, it's really not a big deal. But if you're looking for precise parity between your existing platform and FCP, you're going to be horribly disappointed. You eventually accept or cope with FCP's many shortcomings and learn to exploit FCP's many benefits.

You're going to despise FCP with a deep and unreasonable loathing. You'll get over it eventually but your $1k FCP will never be a multi-$10k Avid. At least not in its present form but with NAB just around the corner, who knows?

Depends on your needs & budget. I personally lean towards AJA. Their tech support is the best I've ever had to use. And their products are rock solid.

[Lars] "What do I buy or do to get rid of the latency in my client monitor? Is there a way? "

How are you monitoring your video? DV, Capture Card, what?

You can use the Playback Offset to get the canvas and external monitor locked together.
