FCP can't open a FCP project

Any ideas on how to get the FCP project file to open after you get this message?

"The document “filename” could not be opened. Final Cut Pro cannot open files in the “Final Cut Pro Project File” format.

It's an older project and I no longer have the auto back up files. I'm using FCP 6.
