5d footage can't be watched in FPC 7

Erick Vega5d footage can't be watched in FPC 7

I have footage shot on a 5D, it can be played on my hard drive but once i imp or it to FCP7 is all black , the audio is there but not the video. any suggestions?/

How are you importing the footage ? Use the log and transfer tool to import and transcode to ProRes (422LT or 422)
You should be fine then.
(NB you will need the free Canon FCP plug in)

Thank you of for the reply,, my friend gave me the hard drive with the files already converted as .MOV , they have the h,264 codec and for some reason the are all black in FCP and also i tried to open them with MPEG Stream clip and is the same thing.. Do you think is corrupted footage?

yes i can open them on quicktime but not in any other program,, is a black screen with audio..

H264 is the native recording format of a 5D however these should open and play in just about anything. Quicktime and MPEG Streamclip as well as FCP should have no issue. You need to convert to ProRes to edit but before that some pictures would be good!
Did your friend do anything to the files other than copy them ?

i do have QT7 installed, i can play the files from the hard drive, but they will no open to any other programs, never seen this before, and my friend didn't do anything to the files when dumping the cards to the hard drive.
