I'm trying to do a clean install of Mac OS 10.5.8 with Final Cut Studio 3, but Software Update isn't helping me update everything to the latest available version.
Here's where I am so far:
- wiped HDD clean using zero data
- installed Mac OS X 10.5.6 from DVD
- installed 10.5.8 Combo Update
- ran Software Update, which downloaded and installed the following:
Security Update 2011-004, Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 5, iTunes 10.6.1, AirPort Utility 5.5.3, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.4, Performance Update, Migration Assistant Update, Front Row Update 2.1.7, iLife Support 9.0.4, Safari 5.0.6, Java for Mac OS X 10.5. Update 10
- installed Final Cut Studio 3 from DVD
Then when I ran Software Update again, it didn't show any updates for Final Cut Studio! It won't even tell me there's a QuickTime 7.7 update available. I guess that's because Apple has dropped support for old versions of FCS in the wake of Final Cut Pro X. Thankfully, it looks like all of the updates I need are still available through Apple's support site, but I'm looking for some advice as to exactly what I need to install, and in what order.
I see the following updates available for Leopard and Final Cut Studio 3:
My questions are as follows:
- Are there any additional recommended updates not featured on Apple's site?
- Do I need all four of these updates, or will simply the QuickTime, ProApps and ProKit updates suffice?
- Is there a specific order I should install these in? I'm guessing Plugin Manager, ProKit, ProApps, QuickTime as that's the order in which they were made available, but Plugin Manager pre-dates my installation of FCS3, so not sure about that one. I don't want to install older files than the ones in FCS3!
- Is there any known downside to installing these updates manually, or is it more reliable than the now-defunct Software Update method?
My sincerest thanks to anyone who can help. I want my FCS3 installation to be perfect as I don't intend to do it again if I can help it.
Thanks again! =)
