Compressor 3.5.1 ProRes422 preset issue
by Phil Muri on Nov 7, 2009 at 10:38:11 am

Howdy Cowpokes,
I have been instructed to export my 1080p show using the Apple ProRes 422 HQ codec and the production house wants the movie interlaced.
My colleague (running Compressor 2.x) simply used the preset from Compressor's setting list– Apple Pro Res422 HQ (For interlaced materiel). The result was an interlaced movie, but this is not the case for me when I attempt this with Compressor 3.5.1.
The Inspector indicates 'Interlaced' when I click on the setting applied to the movie. Digging deeper in the inspector, I noticed that interlaced was not selected in the Video setting . And when I try to manually check the interlaced box and then hit OK, it reverts right back to progressive.

I am trying to avoid messing with frame control conversions. Why does the previous version of Compressor deliver on interlacing the export with the preset while the new version does not?

Can anyone confirm this behaviour in 3.5.1?
As a workaround, I tried using a droplet from the 2.x version, but the process hangs in 'Submitting files' (it was a 1-second test file). Any ideas?

Should I just give up on Compressor and drop the movie into the desired specs. in FCP?
Thanks in advance,

-Phil

What is the source of your video? What are your FCP timeline settings? It sounds like you're trying to send a progressive video to compressor.

Hi Arnie,

The timeline setting is XDCAM HD422 1080p30 (50Mb/s). As is majority of the footage. So yes, I am trying to send a progressive video to Compressor. (Well actually I have made a reference movie and imported that into Compressor).

Thanks for your help,

-Phil
