captured text looks better when viewing excess luma
by David Eaks on Nov 6, 2009 at 2:30:29 am

Hello, I am editing some captured video that was recorded to dvd. One of the video tracks is a power point presentation that was recorded using a pc to tv converter. I noticed that when I press the short cut, control> z, to view excess luma in the viewer, the text in the presentation looks significantly sharper. I have tried several effects to no avail. What can I do to get the text to look nice and sharp like when viewing excess Luma?

TIA, I am new to Macs and appreciate any help.

Best,
Dave

What are your time line settings?
What format is your video captured to?
How are you viewing your edit?

With some more info from you we might be able to get you an answer.

There are no "technical solutions" to your "artistic problems".
Don't let technology get in the way of your creativity!

There is one possibility that your preview RTE settings are lowering your display resolution, but more likely what is happening is that by showing "excess luma", what you are recovering is the over/under shoot spikes that the PC2TV converter coded into the (composite?) output.

Maybe you can add a sharpen filter, maybe you should re-do the text graphics...
