Broadcast Monitor for under $3000?

Is there a 1920x1080p/i broadcast/DVD color correcting quality monitor out there for under $3000, 17" to 24" that you would recommend?
Can you still get a true readout from a PANNY 17" 1280x768 monitor if the material is 1920x1080? What about the Flanders Scientific, Inc LM-1770W? Can a person use that to color correct and monitor 1920x180 material even though that monitor is only 1366x768?
And can I do all this with using my Intensity Pro card HDMI out put?

That's looks good - so is it a computer monitor or a NTSC broadcast monitor? Can I use this with broadcast quality results with just my Intensity Pro card?

Yeah, I am serious.
Kent, the trick is it all needs to be true p and RGB sent to the Dreamcolor to get the calibrated color profiles. If you do not send p or RGB, you will not get a calibrated monitor.

[Shane Ross]"are you SERIOUS about the Dream Color with SDI to DVI converter?"
It's a DVI connector, but I have a DVI to HDMI cable. I then get HDMI 1.3a connectivity to the Dreamcolor. The color is great, black level is fantastic, and it's true 10bit. It is calibrated with an external device made just for the monitor.

Ahhh...but only for PROGRESSIVE. And does it handle SD well?
The FSI monitors do Progressive, Interlacing (yes, they show BOTH fields) and SD well. I still work with interlaced footage, so I stand by my suggestion...and go so far as to say it is a BETTER option than the Dreamcolor. More versatile.

[Shane Ross]"And does it handle SD well?"
When paired with an HDP2, the quality blew me away. I could not believe it, and I am picky.
I work with interlaced (psf) material too. I am sure the FSI monitors are great, but the Dreamcolor is under 3K (even with the AJA) and 10 bit. There are no bells and whistles, though. It's just a monitor. No scopes, no audio, no nothing. Just true 10bit images and very nice color/contrast.

I appreciate the help - you probably meant Flanders Scientific 1760W NOT Flanders Scientific 1706W Shane...I'm thinking of the 1770W as it's lighter for shoots I do on location - but will it work with just my Intensity Pro card HDMI out? And can I monitor 1920x1080p and i, even though the monitor is
only 1366x768? How does that work?

Yes, you can monitor full 1080 on that. It isn't pixel for pixel, but you don't need pixel for pixel to get a proper image to color correct. I use a PVM-14L5...that is a 14" CRT...still looks good. I am saving up for the 1760W.
If you only have HDMI out...look at the Panasonic Pro Plasma HDTVs. Yes...these are in use in major post facility edit suites...and they have HDMI in. Or get an HDMI to SDI converter. Or a better capture card...like the intensity PRO...

Yes, but the LM-1770W, like all FSI monitors, is equipped with a DVI-I input. A simple HDMI to DVI cable would work in this scenario. You could also use component (HD/SD), which would be my choice in this situation.

Yep, we do this every day. You can even monitor 2k on it. The absolute best Broadcast Monitor for under $3,000 is the FSI 1760W and now 1770W. We have been using the 1760W for a while now and after seeing the 1770W a few weeks ago, we're putting those into the new facility as well.
We also have two of their 2450W's in house as well.
Hands down the best monitors period under $10,000 that I've seen are the entire FSI lineup. If you haven't already, look at their Video Manual which is also a great demo on all the features and performance of the monitors.

[Kent Beeson]"Very much thanks for all the helpful replies, I may indeed get that FS 1770W... "
One thing I neglected to mention and you'll see it on the FSI site. 30 day full money back guarantee so even if you don't like it, just send it back, get your refund and go get something else. Pretty much a win-win for you.
Good luck and have fun.

Hey, Don't forget the TV Logic line. They are excellent. They do real interlaced SD as well as HD. You might find a demo or B-Stock well under $3K. I got my 23" for about $2,200.
